GREAT NEWS
WITH THE HELP OF THIE "CAMERA CROWD"  BUYING NUMBERS ONLINE  WE HAVE NEXT MONTHS FOOD BILL PAID FOR  AND ALMOST COVERED THE OIL DELIVERY WE JUST HAD.-- THIS IS A HUGE HELP   -- THOSE $10 NUMBERS DO ADD UP !  THANK YOU...
*****
IT IS TOO EARLY  FOR ME TO  BE  ANNOYED ABOUT ANYTHING .
SO..... LACKING THE VENTING DEPARTMENT-- I WILL GET INTO THE OLD WIVES TALE  DIVISION...
********************

PURE SPECULATION I DO NOT GUARENTEE ANY RESEMBLENCE TO SCIENTIFIC FACT
****
YOU WATCH THESE PUPS AS THEY DEVELOPE ---  THEY CAN AND DO PUT THEIR LEGS STRAIGHT BACKWARDS.

I CAN HARDLY WAIT FOR GEORGE ( DVM) TO TELL ME I AM NUTS
 HE DOES THAT OFTEN
...
MY FATHER--- BORN IN 1900---WELL  BEFORE XRAYING DOGS WAS IN VOGUE.. ... HE TOLD ME  WHEN I WENT TO PICK A PUP OUT OF A LITTER-- TO PICK A PUP WHO COULD SLEEP WITH IT'S LEGS STRAIGHT BACKWARDS AND THEY WOULD NOT GO LAME.

NOW FLIP FORWARD TO  THE YEAR 2000.  I HAD A DOG FROM EUROPE DEAGLE... AT THAT POINT THERE WAS SO MUCH DYSPLASIA AROUND THAT HAVING TH BREEDING DOG'S HIPS XRAYED WAS CONSIDERED RESPONSIBLE BREEDING.  SO I DID THAT TO DEAGLE.

THERE WERE-- MAYBE STILL ARE--- 2 TYPES OF HIP XRAYS   A SIMPLE XRAY $75  WHICH YOU THEN SENT TO  OFA FOR $20--- SOMEWHERE IN NEBRASKA   OR SOMEWHERE== AND THEY WOULD GIVE YOU SOME KIND OF RATING..   GOOD-- BAD-- OR INDIFERENT -- OR SOMETHING---  I FORGET .

I AM GOING SOMEWHERE WITH THIS STORY

THEN PENN HIP CAME ALONG----  $500 AND A BUNCH OF XRAYS AND YOU GOT BACK A NUMBER DESCRIBING EACH HIP - RIGHT AND LEFT.. VERY SOPHISTICATED-- AND YOU BRAGGED ABOUT HIS RIGHT HIP IS 28 AND LEFT ONE 32-- WHICH WERE SUPER HIPS ---
AND AS WE HAD DEAGLE ON THE TABLE-- ANESTHISIZED -- THE VET TECH  YANKED AND PULLED HIS LEGS INTO POSITION... STRAIGHT BACK... AND SAID " I CAN TELL YOU NOW   HIS HIPS ARE EXCELLENT BECAUSE MOST DOGS YOU CAN NOT  GET THE LEGS STRAIGHT BACK LIKE THIS"
AT WHICH POINT I REMEMBERED MY FATHER'S COMMENT-- AND HAVE SAVED $500 PER DOG SINCE.-

WELL --- IT IS NOT QUITE THAT ABRUPT..   FOR A LONG TIME AFTER THAT  I JUST HAD A NORMAL XRAY TAKEN AND GEORGE CAN TELL BAD HIPS AS WELL AS OFA.. SO WE DID THAT... FOR ABOUT 3 GENERATIONS--

THEN I WENT TO THE RAISED FOOD DISHES-- WHERE THEY ALL STAND IN A LINE TWICE A DAY AND YOU CAN SEE WHAT THEIR REAR ENDS LOOK LIKE.. NOW IF I HAVE ANY QUESTION AT ALL-- THEY BECOME  FABULOUS FAILURES AND SOMEONE'S PERFECT PET... WE HAVE NOT HAD MANY OF THOSE AT ALL.
*****
PACING IS ANOTHER THING THAT WILL MAKE ME DISMISS A DOG.  PACING IS  WHEN 2 FEET ON THE SAME SIDE MOVE FORWARD AND BACK IN UNISON...  A DOG SHOULD TROT-- DIAGIONAL FEET.  IF THEY PACE IT MEANS--- TO ME ANYWAY-- THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG SOMEWHERE  EITHER   GENETIC OR INJURY-- PERFECLY GOOD DOGS-- BUT I DON'T KEEP THEM IN THE SERVICE DOG PROGRAM--IT DOES NOT PAY ME/GEORGE  TO FIGURE OUT WHY-- I DON'T CARE WHY--  THEY ARE GREAT PETS...

THE LAST ONE  I REMEMBER IS ABBIE  ----BEAUTIFUL HARLEQUIN FEMALE   PACED AT 3 MONTHS AND I GAVE HER TO COLLEEN WHO STILL ENJOYS HER WOBBLY NATURE AT 13 YEARS OLD.
A  WONDERFULLY HAPPY LIFE- IS STILL AROUND HERE AT TIMES-- AND IT WOULD PAY TO HAVE EVERY ONE WATCH HER MOVE.

SO WHEN YOU SEE ME IN THE  T T ENT DRINKING ICE TEA-- I AM NOT GOOFING OFF-- I AM WATCHING THEM MOVE  .
**************
I HAVE ANOTHER ON GOING ARGUEMENT WITH GEORGE-- MY DOGS HAVE HAIRY TEETH-  VERY OFTEN ONE HAIR UNDER THE GUM OF THEIR EYE TOOTH-- HE SAYS LAPPING---  BUT BAILEY ( WHITE) HAD A BLACK HAIR STICKING OUT OF HER GUM.
I AM NOT QUITTING ----I NEED MORE STATISTICS ON THAT ONE,
*******
SPEAKING OF YOU LOT BEING HELPFUL-- MY MISERY ABOUT---- DID I  OR DID I NOT-- SEND IN THE 990 TAX FORMS-- TWO OF YOU RESEARCHED IT FOR ME
YES I DID... BUT I AM ONE FORM  SHORT  FOR THE  STATE

WHICH I WILL DO. HOPEFULLY TODAY
**********
RESEARCH -- SOME ONE HAS WARNED ME OF AN APPROACHING HURRICANE---

REALLLY????
IN ANY CASE WE SHOULD GET OUR PHONE TREE GOING FOR WINTER...
IF WE LOOSE ELECTRICITY WE LOOSE HEAT IN  THE BARN KENNELS- THE REST  -- NUTT HOUSE -- DEAGLE HOUSE-- LAUNDRY-- MAIN HOUSE-- ALL HAVE =WOOD OR COAL STOVES--   BUT THE BARN GETS COLD-
AND THE OLD RULE OF TOO MANY TESTICLES IN ONE BUILDING  GETS TO BE A PROBLEM

EVEN SO-- WE NEED A SUPPLY OF  KINDLING.. OIL AND WOOD IN EACH OF THE OTHER BUILDINGS
A GOOD SUNDAY STEW JOB-  LIKE CHECKING THE  FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
******************
 TRAINING---
MEGAN AND I GOT ALL ORGANIZED YESTERDAY TO TAKE FIONA AND LULU ON A TRAIN RIDE-- THE USUAL IS TO START IN BEVERLY---  RIDE ONE STOP TO SALEM  WHERE  7 MINUTES LATER THERE IS A TRAIN GOING BACK TO BEVERLY...
A GREAT 10 MINUTE LESSON
EXCEPT... THE TRAIN IN GOING WAS 8 MINUTES LATE AND BETWEEN BEVERLY AND SALEM WE PASSED OUR TRAIN GOING THE OTHER DIRECTION..  WE SAT IN SALEM FOR AN HOUR/

IT WAS EDUCATIONAL-- THE REASON THE TRAINS WERE LATE??? YOU WOULD NEVER GUESS  --AND I DON'T THINK THE GUY WAS KIDDING US.. LEAVES ON THE TRACK..APPAERNTLY EVEN A FEW LEAVES UNDER THE WHEELS CAUSES A LACK OF TRACTION AS THE LEAVES CRUNCH INTO A GOOPY SLIPERY  CONSISTANCY-- AND IF THERE IS A GRADE-- THE ENGINES CAN NOT PULL.

I AM VERY PREPARED TO HAVE SOMEONE TELL ME THAT IS NUTS...

BUT IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE FOR THE DOGS..  LULU IS BRIGHT AND QUICK-- HOLY SH#T RESPONSE....   FIONA HAS MORE OF A "LET ME FIGURE THIS OUT" ATTITUDE .. FIONA IS OLDER TOO.
*****
TODAY -

- MIKE AND A COUPLE OF HIS TRAINING FRIENDS PLUS PI AND BOB  ARE COMING  FOR A MEET AND GREET...

I DID HEAR RUMOR PAUL WOULD BE AROUND..
AND THE DUMPSTER IS EMPTY-- AND I AM INSPIRED

ONE LAST LESSON/THOUGHT
HORSE SH#T-- AS   MANURE--- IS A VALUABLE THING-- IF  IT IS NOT A TRASH PILE.. IF IT HAS HAY STRINGS, SODA CANS, AND COFFEE CUPS,  I WOULD HAVE TO PAY SOMEONE TO TAKE IT AWAY INSTEAD OF THEM PAYING ME..
THERE  ARE SOME HORSE PEOPLE WHO NEED THAT LESSON.
*****
MOXIE  IS  NOW HERE-- ROUND AS EVER-- THE TV ROOM IS HER APPARTMENT.  SHE IS DUE  IN 3 OR 4 DAYS..

  1. What a fascinating post! Firstly, I must tell you that here in the UK, MANY trains will be late/cancelled in the next few months due to "leaves on the line". I used to think it was a myth, but spoke with a train driver one day & nope, it's true.
The dysplasia info is so interesting & it's great that you can tell from the puppies standing on the feeding station. Does it follow that the fewer dogs born with it means that it would eventually be non-existant in Great Danes?
The hair growing under the gum is bizarre, but I suppose there's not a lot you can do about it, except hope for no infection. It's thinking about things like this makes me wish I was a geneticist, the dogs would be such an interesting study subject.
Have a lovely Friday, I'm hoping there'll be no more panicking about squashed puppies today. ;)

  2. Very interesting post. Have never heard of hair actually growing in the mouth. Also, and maybe it's somewhere in all your information, but, do you and others do all the service dog training on site there? At what point do you really get down to the nitty gritty of training the pups and how long does it last before you start training with the potential recipient? Please do not hesitate to point me in the right direction is this is all posted. Thanks so much! Enjoy the weekend and I hope the "Frankenstorm" misses you entirely.

  3. Moxie? I have two box turtles, Roxie and Moxie. Moxie is my escape artist. Rescues. Would NEVER take a box turtle from the wild. I guess you know that there was once a soda called Moxie.I have an old bottle, empty, in my apt.
How the heck do you handle two litters at once?
