November 14, 2012

ITIS SOOOO MUCH EASIER TO WRITE THIS WHEN I HAVE NOTHING TO REPORT-- JUST RATTLILNG ALONG ON RANDOM TOPICS IS EASY

BUT TODAY I HAVE 2 REPORTS.
  TEAL AND THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
\
A HUGE " THANK YOU" TO CARLENE, MEGAN AND ANN FOR GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND TO BE SUCH GREAT ADVOCATES.

JOCELYN WAS IN FACT BEING BULLIED AT SCHOOL BY NOT JUST KIDS. IT DIDN'T SEEM OBVIOUS AT FIRST UNTIL ALL THE FACTS CAME TOGETHER. IT WAS GREAT THAT ALL THREE OF YOU TOOK TIME OUT OF YOUR SCHEDULE TO MAKE SURE JUSTICE WAS SERVED. HOPEFULLY, THE SCHOOL WILL KEEP THEIR END, AND DO WHAT IS RIGHT. TEAL WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE ALL THREE OF YOU ( NOT LIKE THE PRICIPAL) WHO WILL HOPEFULLY NOT IGNORE ME TOMORROW WHEN I SAY "GOODMORNING" TO HER.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I THINK JOCELYN FEELS MORE AT EASE KNOWING THAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE STICKING UP FOR HER AND IS THERE FOR HER AND TEAL!!

THANKS AGAIN,
MANDY, JOCELYN AND TEAL

BY THE WAY, I GAVE JOCELYN YOUR E-MAIL, MEGAN!!
*****************
I DID NOT GRAB THE BUTT OF THAT PRINCIPAL--- AS WAS MENTIONED--- TO DEMO WHAT TEAL HAS BEEN GOING THRU...  THE PRINCIPAL WHEN FACED WITH 5 OF US-- BOTH PARENTS, ANNE MEGAN AND ME- WAS LESS THAN POLITE AND SAID SHE JUST DID NOT HAVE TIME FOR US. SHE REFERRED US TO THE SPECIAL ED WOMAN -- WHO WAS PLEASENT ENOUGH-  AND DID WRITE THINGS DOWN ON HER PIECE OF PAPER..

THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO  AND HAVE NOT BEEN "ON TOP OF IT"

SHE HAD A FEW GOOD IDEAS-- FIRE DRILLS BEING ONE OF THEM-- APPARENTLY FOR DRILLS THERE IS A GROUP OF KIDS -- ON RESPIRQTORS ETC WHO ARE SHUFFLED TO THE BACK DOOR  OF THE AUDITORIUM- WHERE IF IT IS A REAL FIRE THE FIRE DEPT KNOWS WHERE THEY ARE...

SHE WAS DISCOURAGING ABOUT BEING ABLE TO CONTROL THE STUDENT BEHAVIOR- AND SHE MAY BE RIGHT --- SHE SUGGESTED 60 CHANGE CLASSES 10 MIN AHEAD OF TEH GENERAL STUDENT POPULATON---  BUT  WE ALSO TOLD HER THE NAMES OF THE 4 ADULTS WHO WE KNEW TO BE A PROBLEM--  WHEN I TALKED WITH 60 AT THE FARM SHE SAID "MISS ANXXXXXX DOESN'T LIKE ME"- AS WE THEN MET WITH  THE PERSON WHO HAD VIDEO'D 60 DURING A FIREDRILL  WE FOUND OUT WHO MS ANDERSXXX WAS-- .  FROM HER COMMENTS-- SHE DOES NOT LIKE TEAL- AND MUCH PREFERS TO TREAT 60 LIKE A SAC OF FLOUR--- IT IS VERY   INCONVENIENT FOR HER TO DEAL--SHE THOUGHT  HER JOB WAS TO WALK 6 " BEHIND 60 AND PREVENT A FALL-AND TEAL WAS IN HER WAY....  SHE COULD NOT UNDERSTAND 6" BEHIND WAS EXACTLY WHERE  THE KIDS WERE WHO WERE PULLING HIS TAIL- SO SHE WAS IN FACT MAKING THE PROBLEM WORSE.
60'S MOM  SIGNED A PAPER SAYING 60 WAS GOING TO FALL ANYWAY-- BOTH WITH OR WITHOUT TEAL  AND EVERYONE SHOULD LEAVE 60 ALONE UNLESS SHE ASKS FOR HELP.

AS WE WENT TO LEAVE 60 GOT TANGLED IN HER FEET AND TOOK A NOSEDIVE  RIGHT OVER TEAL-- WHO ALSO FELL-- AS WE ALL STOOD AROUND LAUGHING... AND WATCHING 60 GET BACK ON HER FEET TOTALLY WITH THE HELP OF THE DOG...ONE OF THE STAFF WENT BY WITH A "WHY AREN'T YOU HELPING??"  LOOK.  MISSING THE POINT THAT  THIS IS ABOUT INDEPENDENCE  -  60 AND TEAL DID NOT  NEED HELP- THEY WERE WORKING FINE TOGETHER- IN THIS PARTICULAR  CASE  HE BROKE HER FALL .  WE  THEN WALKED OUT THE DOOR-- AND 60 WAS  LOOKING LIKE ANY KID OUT WALKING HER DOG.... HER  LEGS LOOKING BETTER WITH EVERY STEP.  HER NEUROLOGIST IS AMAZED AT THE IMPROVEMENT IN HER LEGS SINCE TEAL ..

60 NOW HAS MEGAN'S AND MY PHONE NUMBER  AND WILL HOPEFULLY GIVE US A DAILY REPORT TO BE SURE THE SCHOOL KEEPS IT'S BARGAIN..

THE OPTION STILL IS FOR 60 TO GO TO ANOTHER SCHOOL-- AT THE EXPENSE OF THE SCHOOL DEPARTMENT.

THE NEGATIVE ATTITUDE OF  EVEN THAT ONE STAFF MEMBER IS A HORRID BURDEN FOR 60.
I DO NOT THINK WE HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM YET-- BUT WE ARE NOT DONE TRYING TO SOLVE IT EITHER.
***************************
AND THEN THERE WAS
"THE BOARD MEETING"
HISTORICALLY IT WAS A GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO WANTED TO GO TO DINNER AT THE COUNTRY CLUB TO HELP EAT UP THE MINIMUM IN THE DINING ROOM BEFORE I GOT CHARGED FOR IT..

WELL... WE HAVE  GROWN TO A GROUP  WHO THINK....WITH MINUTES AND PIECES OF PAPER WITH BUDGETS  TO LOOK AT

IT IS BEST EXPLAINED BY THE LAUNDRY CHORE
.
THANKS TO A PERSON NAMED STEPHANIE  WE HAVE THE MONEY FOR ANOTHER WASCOMAT TO BE PUT IN THE FEED ROOM OF THE BARN.  WHICH BRINGS UP MY DRYING SYSTEM .   A COMBINATION OF SCAFFOLDING AND LADDERS DRAPPED WITH A MISMATCH OF BEDSPREAD TYPE THINGS.

THERE ARE THOSE--- GEORGE AND ANNE-- WHO RIGHTLY SAY  WE MUST LOOK GOOD... AND USE A DRYER INSTEAD OF THE UNSIGHTLY "FLUFFIES" BLOWING IN THE BREEZES...PLUS   WE MUST THINK OF .TYDING UP THE CHICKENS AND MARY

THEN I COME FROM THE OTHER END AND SAY-- THE PLACE HAS TO BE FUN-- OR WE HAVE NO VOLUNTEERS--- AND REGARDLESS OF ANY MONEY-- YOU COULD NOT PAY ANYONE TO DO WHAT OUR VOLUNTEERS DO--
ABD OSHA WOULD HAVE A HEART ATTACK...

GEORGE ADDED-- YOU COULD NEVER HIRE THE QUALITY EITHER.

SO THERE IS AN ARGUEMENTAL DEBATE OF APPEARENCE AS OPPOSED TO CREATIVITY AND FUNCTIONALITY..

THESE CAMERAS HAVE EASED UP OUR BURDEN OF THE FEED BILL-- AND EVERYONE DISCUSSED THE FACT THAT WE HAVE A TARGETED AUDIENCE WHICH SHOU LD BE THE DREAM PROJECT FOR A COMPANY LIKE PURINA  AS WE SPOON FEED PUPS IN TRAINING WITH THEIR CANNED FOOD.

WE HAVE AN HUGE   AMOUNT OF  CREDIBILITY TO "SELL" AND IT SHOULD BE WORTH A PALLET OF FOOD A MONTH..
*************
BECKY  ( VET IN THE GUEST HOUSE BONDING WITH STU) IS DOING FAMOUSLY-- WENT TO THE HOSPITAL WITH HIM YESTERDAY--  SHE POINTED OUT THAT THE SERVICE DOGS ACTALLY PRODUCED WERE NOT THE COMPLETE "PRODUCE'  THE EXISTANC OF THIS FARM AMIDST A VERY STRANGE WORLD - IS ONE PLACED THAT IS REAL.

I THINK REAL = NOT PERFECTED
PERFECTION IS EXENSIVE

TODAY WE-- SHE --MEGAN AND I -- WILL BRAVE THE COSTCO CROWDS..  10 TO 12 ISH.  HE IS DOING BEAUTIFULLY.
***************

AND SOMEONE IS COMING TO CUT BEEF IN FRONT OF THE FIRE...

SOUNDS GOOD TO ME---

THERE WAS SOMETHIGN WIERD I WAS SUPPOSED TO INCLUDE ITHE DD
WAS IT THE FROG IN THE TOILET--?? OR WAS THAT YESTERDAY??
I FORGET.

  1. From everyone who needs a little help once in a while...Thank You for being the voice of reason. That child needs all of you. You are making a difference that will show her the strength she has inside. How dare those people, in a school, who are suppose to look out for everyone, make her feel like that. Shame on them.

  2. You are my HERO. I think you are also 60's HERO. Sometimes folks just have to be reminded of the rules for all of us to get along.

As far as the laundry, I think in today "GREEN" environment- what is wrong with hang drying the laundry? You are saving on your gas bills, you are not adding dryer sheet chemicals to the stuff, and it is more colorful to see, they smell fresh and clean. IT IS A FARM!
Find you some of those pulleys that the Amish use for they laundry, hang one high on a pole and the other down by the dryer and let them sail.

    1. I couldn't agree more, all the way around. Save money where you can. I would bet as long as your place appears clean, you will maintain as we'll as attract other donors. Not a concern. Also agree on the 60 comments.

  3. Love the idea of racks on pulleys. My MIL had one in her basement and it was wonderful. It could be lowered to waist height for putting stuff on it, then raised above head height for drying. And that was in Vancouver, BC - no Amish in sight - so great ideas are universal. I agree that there's nothing better than air or sun dried laundry and it doesn't bother me at all to see it hanging, even on fences and furniture.

Your work with 60 and Teal is wonderful and I sincerely hope a school change comes along sooner rather than later. In the meantime, the children in that school should have been taught by the teacher that a service dog is a working dog, not a playmate. Not at all impressed by the staff, especially that principal. I have many words to describe her but none are suitable for a public forum.

Keep up the good work. You and your volunteers are amazing!! So are the chickens and Mary!

  4. THE WORLD NEEDS MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU TO FIGHT FOR PEOPLE LIKE 60.THE SCHOOL IS A DISGRACE. I'M ONE OF THE CAMERA FOLK AND THINK YOU SHOULD DRY YOUR WASHING AS YOU PLEASE. I USE AN OLD FASHIONED PULLEY MYSELF. GOD BLESS YOU, YOUR HELPERS AND THE DOGS.

  5. in our neck of the woods we call it an ARD, Arrival, Review and Dismissal. You call an ARD for situations like this and you can invite/request someone like the principal to be there at the ARD. I would suggest next time you call an ARD, you request the teachers that that 60 is having trouble with and instruct them on how to handle 60's situation. If 60's parents can, have them hire an Advocate to take with them to the ARD. My Advocate is not a lawyer but is versed in Wright's Law and makes sure all my t's are crossed and i's dotted. I found my Advocate through my childs Developemental Pedictrician and have used her since then. 60's parents might want to go on local Yahoo groups dealing with 60's special need and ask them for recommendations on an Advocate.

    Hope this helps,

  6. ASSISTANCE DOG ETIQUETTE SPELLED OUT CLEARLY FROM THIS LINK: http://www.nh.gov/disability/information/community/serviceanimals.htm "Assistance Dog Etiquette - Do's And Don'ts The following list of recommendations is for when meeting or interacting with an Assistance/Service Dog team in public. This same etiquette applies to Assistance/Service Puppies in training. DON'T…distract the dog from their working position by calling, clapping, or offering food. DO…allow the Assistance Dog to serve as a working partner without distraction. DON'T…attempt to pet or touch an Assistance Dog…this also applies to your children and dogs; DO…speak to the person…not to the dog when greeting an Assistance Dog team. DON'T…be insulted if your request to pet the Assistance Dog is not granted; DO…understand that releasing the dog to greet you might distract the dogs attentiveness to their partner. DON'T…automatically tell the person that there are no dogs allowed. DO…ask if the dog with them is an Assistance/Service Dog. If they say yes…no further access questions are necessary. DON'T…assume that the dog is not an Assistance Dog because the person doesn't look disabled; DO… observe the conduct and interaction between the person and the dog. If the dog is being attentive to his or her partner and functioning close to them, you are looking at the main characteristics of an Assistance/Service Dog."

  7. Long time reader, first time writer. As a long time advocate for kids with disabilities this situation is driving me crazy. So pleased that you went there and were able to make at least a little inroads.the suggestion that the girl leave 10 minutes early is more discrimination -- the school is supposed to make the accommodation to make things work for her, not the other way around. She should not have 1 minute less of academic time (or social time, for that matter) for the convenience of anyone else. If dismissal is the problem, they need to figure out what changes need to be made to the environment to make it work for Teal and the student.
The principal needs to be part of the solution. Sounds like a hostile environment up there, sadly. I second the idea of the family hiring an educational advocate (or a lawyer) to set up the environment that will ensure that the student is learning in the least restrictive environment.
Keep up the great work. Beth Crawford insists that we all take a road trip to visit SDP, and we may jsut have to do that!

  8. I am so glad 60 has you to advocate for her, and for Teal. She has every right to have what she needs, just like any other kid! If that school can't deal with it, find a school that can, and have the district pay to transport her. I am a teacher who would LOVE to have a service dog in my classroom. What a great learning experience for everyone!

  9. I am a special educator and am appalled at the way this school is acting. I do not have any service dogs with my students but I do have 2 therapy dogs. These dogs are welcomed into the building by everyone. I have teachers that try to get coverage for their classroom so they can spend some time with the dogs. I think what you are doing for 60 is great. Do not back down!

As for the laundry... You do what works for you. I think it gives you and your place character.
