LARGE PROBLEM...

I CAN  NOT ANSWER ALL THESE THINGS I AM GETTING THRU FACEBOOK.TWISTER- OR ANYTHING ELSE..  I AM GETTING HUNDREDS OF EMAILS WHERE YOU ALL ARE DISCUSSING SOMETHING WITH EACH    OTHER

AND I CAN NOT GO THRU ALL THE FRIENDING PROCESS BECAUSE BASICALLY I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THAT MEANS

I WILL CONTINUE TO TRY AND ANSWER THE EXPLORE.ORG COMMENTS UNDER OUR CAMERAS.. ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE IN CAPS-- SO I CAN READ THEM
*************
THE LATEST DISCUSSION  ON THE EXPLORE HAS BEEN TREESKI GETTING HIS COAT RIPPED BY A DEW CLAW... AND THEN MANY SAYING DEW CLAWS SHOULD BE CUT OFF AS BABIES SO THEY DON'T GET TORN OFF.-------  NOT MY PUPS--- THANK YOU....
.

LET ME TRIP LIGHTLY THRU THAT PROCESS..-  STARTING WITH THE HUNDREDS OF DOGS I HAVE OWNED AND HANDLED-- I NEVER HAD A DEW CLAW GET TORN IN ANY WAY..  TOENAILS OFTEN.. EARS  OFTEN..TAILS FREQUENTLY BLEEDING..  BUT  DEW CLAWS... NO.

PLUS THE PROCESS OF REMOVING DEW CLAWS DOES NOT GET MY APPROVAL.  IT IS DONE WITH DAY OLD PUPS- BASICALLY RIPPED OFF  NO ANESTHESIA...HOW BAD IS IT?  YOU CAN NOT HAVE TH E MOTHER DOG ANYWHERE NEAR  BECAUSE WHEN SHE HEARS THE SCREAMING PUP SHE LOOSES CONTROL.  THAT IS HOW BAD.
 SAME THING WITH DOCKING TAILS...

I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM WITH CUTTING THINGS OFF UNDER ANESTHESIA BY A VET...
 STARTING WITH NEUTERING MALES....\

WHERE I GET ANNOYED IS WHEN THE GENERAL PUBLIC  - IN TRYING TO LOOK OUT FOR ANIMALS DECIDES SOME PROCEEDURE IS BAD  AND ILLEGAL --THEN INSTEAD OF PROPER SURGERY YOU GET A PERSON WITH RUSTY SCISSORS ON A MOTEL FLOOR CUTTING OFF PUPPY TAILS.  INSTEAD OF TRYING TIO OUTLAW THE PROCEEDURE  THE LAW SHOULD BE IT MUST BE DONE BY A VET UNDER ANESTHESIA. ..

I CAN HEAR IT NOW..." IT IS WORSE FOR THE PUP TO BE UNDER ANESTHESIA THAN IT IS TO JUST CHOP THEM OFF"    IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHICH END OF THE CHOPPERS YOU ARE ON..

I WISH I COULD MANAGE TO HAVE ALL TH E DANE SERVICE DOGS TAILS CROPPED---  GEORGE HAS CROPPED 1-- FOR A  QUADREPLEGIC PERSON'S DOG BECAUSE IT WAS BOUND TO GET BROKEN GOING THRU DOORS-- GEORGE LEFT A 6" STUMP IN  CASE WE NEEDED A HANDLE.

I HAVE HAD MANY DANES WITH TAIL PROBLEMS ----- HAPPY TAILS-- WHERE THEY BANG THE END ON THE WALLS SO HARD THE IT DEVELOPES A SMALL BLEEDER-- WHECH THE DOG CAN USE AS A SPRAYGUN TO PLASTER THE CEILING AND WALLS WITH BLOOD-- AND WHEN IT HAPPENS  THE DOG DECIDES YOU ARE TRYING TO GRAB HIS TAIL AS SOME KIND OF GAME-- AND HE WAGS IT HARDER,

AND EARS -  WHEN THEY  GRAB EACH OTHER BY THE EARS, AND SHAKE BLOOD ALL OVER -  OR THEY GET YEASTY INFECTIONS OFTEN.  IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SLEEP IN A ROOM WITH A DOG WITHA  YEASTY EAR..   IT ITCHES AND THEY SHAKE THIER HEADS EVERY 15 SECONDS.

I EVEN HAD A DOG BITTEN BY A CHILD-- A 2"  TEAR IN THE EAR-- ( IT WAS AT A CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING IN MEDFORD  "WANNA SEE ME BITE THE DOG?" A 12 YEAR OLD KID SAID TO HIS FRIEND...  HE BIT DOWN  JUST BEFORE I BROKE HIS NOSE.   BLOOD ALL OVER

I DON'T HAV ANY STRONG FEELINGS ABOUT CROPPED EARS --- EXCEPT---- AND THIS IS A BIG ONE... - THE SHOW CROP IS LONG AND TAPERED. IT TAKE S FOREVER FOR THE EARS TO STAND-- SOMETIMES MEANING DOGS ARE "IN TAPES" FOR MONTHS/YEARS/--
THAT TAPING  AROUND THE EAR-- ALL WHITE AND TIDY LOOKING     DOES NOT MEET MY APPROVAL.--  THERE  ARE WAYS AROUND THAT HORRID TAPING.  IN MY OPINION.

WHY THE PUBLIC ACCEPTS "DEW CLAWS SHOULD BE REMOVED AS A BABY"   I DO NOT KNOW.
****
GOT TO BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ARE TRAINED TO ACCEPT.

DANES DO NOT GO OUT TO PEE IN THE RAIN.  MAKEING FOR A COMPLICATED KENNEL CLEAN UP TODAY.

WE WILL TRY TODAY FOR THE CENTER OF BAILEY'S BACK????   WALMART HERE WE COME  AGAIN..

AND IF THE WEATHER EVER CLEARS-- MARY'S PACK SADDLE..

****************

MEGAN TOOK NOEL HOME FOR AN OVERNIGHT-- I BET SHE( NOEL) IS FULL OF MILK AN D ANXIOUS TO GET BACK TO TH EPUPS--- WHO ARE SLEEPING QUIETLY...

  1. I'm wondering with dew claws why the Vet can't give just a little local anesthesia. I've seen dew claw removal done...because those dew claw bones are so soft at a day old, she used canine nail clippers and cut off each one. It was fast, and they did scream...seems that a little local would work fine. Points to ponder!

  2. Carlene, I've only had one Dane that had it's dew claws removed when I got him. The others came equipped with them. Never really been an issue. As far as the ears being cropped; I've had two of them done. My vet was a master of it; beautiful job and we had very good luck with training them to stand (less than 4 months on each). He doesn't believe in doing them anymore, so my last one didn't have them done. If he wouldn't do it, then no one was touching her ears. At this point, I love the look of the floppy ones as well, and probably will never seek to have any future Danes get cropped. I have them as pets, so there is no need. I don't want to do unnecessary surgeries anymore; not worth the risk.

  3. I don't know what the big deal is about dew claws. I've had many dogs and not one has ripped off a dew claw and the dew claws have never ripped anything on me. Also agree on the bobbing of tails and cropping of ears. Unless something happens to the tail, leave it alone. They are so expressive. Love your Daily Doggies Carlene, they give us a lot of good information. Nice that Noel could go for an overnight, I think she was homesick. Have a great day. Would love to see you at Walmart.

  4. CARLENE - REGARDING YOUR PROBLEM OF GETTING TOO MUCH EMAIL FROM FACEBOOK - HAVE ONE OF YOUR TEENAGE VOLUNTEERS OR OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA-SAVY PEOPLE GO INTO YOUR FACEBOOK ACCOUNT UNDER THE GROUP THAT ALL THE EMAIL IS COMING FROM, AND CHANGE THAT SETTING FROM "RECEIVE EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS FOR ENTRIES" OR WORDING TO THAT EFFECT, TO NO EMAIL. THAT SHOULD SOLVE A LOT OF YOUR PROBLEMS.

BEST WISHES TO YOUR OPERATION, CARLENE, I THINK YOU'VE GOT AN OUTSTANDING ORGANIZATION OUT THERE.

  5. HAVE HAD MORE THEN A FEW DANES IN MY LIFE, 6 IN ALL, AND ONLY ONE DEW CLAW PROBLEM! HAD THE OFFENDING CLAW REMOVED AS IT WAS HALF OFF ANYWAY, BY THE VET, WITH A LOCAL. I ABSOLUTELY AM AGAINST CROPPING EARS! DOGS WITH FLOPPY EARS NEED THEM FOR HEALTHY EARS! AND TAILS ARE FOR WAGGING! UNNECESSARY SURGURIES ARE TORTURE IN MY BOOK AND DONE FOR THE HUMAN'S VANITY NOT THE DOGS GOOD!

AS TO FACEBOOK..........I RESIGNED, NOT WISHING TO BE 'FRIENDS' WITH COUNTLESS PEOPLE OTHERWISE UNKNOWN TO ME. I THINK THEY KNEW SOMEBODY WHO KNEW SOMEBODY ELSE, WHO KNEW STILL YET SOME OTHER BODY WHO MIGHT HAVE KNOWN ME. TOO MUCH!

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! AND BLESS YOU ALL WHO HAVE HANDS ON ON THIS FABULOUS PROJECT!

  6. I AM ALSO IN FULL AGGREMENT OF NO EAR CROPPING AND NO DEW CLAW REMOVAL..... (NONE OF MY CATS ARE DE-CLAWED EITHER) OUR MARLEY HAS HIS DOUBLE DEWCLAWS AND WE JUST DREMEL THEM LIKE THE REST OF HIS NAILS.... AND OUR CHOW/WOLF HYBRID ALSO HAD SOME DOUBLE DEWS.... YOU ALL ARE DOING AWESOME WORK AND SO GLAD THAT WE CAN WATCH AND SEE THESE DOGS GROW AND LEARN SO MUCH TO HELP OTHERS......
