OH GROAN...

IT IS A RELIEF FOR ME TO REALIZE THERE ARE CAMERA PEOPLE WATCHING THE PUPS ALL THE TIME.. IT IS ALSO A PROBLEM WHEN SEVERAL GET CONCERNED ABOUT SOMETHING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND IT IS HOURS BEFOR I CAN LOOK IT OVER AND RESPOND.

THIS MORNING I HAD 4 EMAILS FROM CAMERA PEOPLE WHO WERE CONCERNED ABOUT THE PUPS.

REST ASSURED-- I WATCH THESE PUPS AND THIER RESPONSES PRETTY CLOSELY- THE WAY THEY REACT AROUND SOMEONE WILL TELL ME MORE THAN AN EMAIL COULD.

****************

THE MOST OFTEN COMMENT IS KICKING-- I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE KICK ONE OF MY PUPS AND IF I DID I AM AFRAID THEY WOULD EASILY HAVE A BLACKENED EYE-EVEN IF I AM 75

SHOVING PUPS ARPOUND WITH YOUR FOOT WHEN YOUR HANDS ARE BUSY DOES NOT CONSTITUTE KICKING-- AND THE PUPS ARE NOT GETTING ANYTHING THEY WOULD NOT BE GIVING EACH OTHER.

THESE PUPS ARE NOT FRAGILE FLOWERS THEY BATTER EACH OTHER PRETTY BADLY.... THE TIPPING POINT THERE IS---- THEY MAY NOT MAKE THE OTHER PUP SCREAM... IF THEY DO MOM WOULD PIN DOWN THE AGGRESSOR-- SO THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT WE DO. AND IT MUST BE DONE VERY QUICKLY-- SO COULD BE INTERPRETED AS A VIOLENT REACTION... IT IS NOT-- IT IS CALCULATED AND DUPES WHAT MOM WOULD DO.

DONE CORRECTLY THE PUP WILL SIT THERE AND THINK "WELL THAT DIDN'T TURN OUT LIKE I THOUGHT IT WOULD"

THERE IS A FINE LINE... -

THERE IS ONE COMMENT FROM LAST NIGHT --THAT MAKES ME SIT UP AND TAKE NOTICE.. USING A HAND TO GRAB A FRONT LEG AND TIP THEM OVER IS NOT ACCEPTABLE BECAUSE OF THE STESS ON THE SHOULDER...

I WATCH PEOPLE AROUND HERE WHEN THEY GO TO PICK UP A PUP --

YOU DO NOT USE THE FRONT LEGS AS HANDLES-- GRAB THE NECK-- PULL THE TAIL --FINE-- BUT DON'T PICK UP THE FRONT LEGS-- THERE IS TOOO MUCH LEVERAGE ON THE SHOULDER JOINT... USING YOUR FOOT GENTLY IS MUCH BETTER.

USING YOUR FOOT WHEN YOUR HANDS ARE BUSY IS MUCH BETTER...IT DOES NOT CONSTITUTE KICKING THEM--

********************

BUT----I WATCH IT BELIEVE ME-

I LET THE PUPS TELL ME WHAT IS GOING ON... I DO NOT SEE ANY THAT ARE AFRAID OF ANYONE AT ALL.. THEY SWARM  PEOPLE
--I WATCH THEIR REACTIONS... THAT TELLS ME MORE THAN PEOPLE EVER COULD.
NOW DON'T COME BACK WITH "YES BUT ONE IS STILL ON THE BED WHEN THE OTHERS RUN TO GREET..
OK I WATCH THAT KIND OF THING-- AND SO FAR THE ODD PUP IS SLEEPING THRU TEH MAYHEM- BUT ONCE AWAKENED IT JOINS THE REST.
SO I WATCH.

AND I THANK THOSE WHO HELP ME WATCH.. I APPRECIATE BEING TOLD THE FACTS... JUST THE FACTS.
********************
AND I AM NOW TEACHING WHIFFLE TO THE 10----- SO GET READY FOR ME TO SWING THAT BAT AT THE NEAREST NOISE MAKER TO GET THEIR ATTENTION WHEN THEY GET TOO ROUGH.
AND ANOTHER BIG LESSON IS BEING TAUGHT THIS WEEK..
IF YOU TOUCH MY FINGERS WITH YOUR TEETH THEN THOSE 2 FINGERS WILL SNAP YOUR NOSE AND SCARE YOU. YOU MUST SNIFF AND LICK... NO TEETH./
THEY HAVE TO LEARN.

FIRST REPORT FROM ALBERT
Well Our first day was very exciting and surprising, we had an car accident (nobody hurt), we found a great walking trail, Casper made his first poopy where he was suppose too, no pee or poop accidents last night, he didn't sleep with me on the bed, we went and walked around town and the park, he sleep on the floor, and he didn't chew up the house even with the combat boot I gave him he seemed to like his stuffed animal. I am very pleased with him!!! Today we are going to the mall (because it is raining outside). That is pretty all we have planned, he is really not use to the vehicle thing...I think he feels out of place. he doesn't lie down or look out the window just moves back and forth. So I think we might drive around a little more and see how he acts.

Will keep you updated

Albert

  1. You are very very correct to use 'body checking' as any pack animal would do! They do the same to each other instinctively in order not to be crushed in the pack. They need to learn and learn quickly that the human is the leader of the pack and teaching them to keep an appropriate (non-crushing) distance is one big and important tool. Ditto the teeth! They can nip each other with impunity, but we have a different kind of 'pelt' and it damages us. All part of socialization. YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB!

  2. IT IS INTERESTING HOW THE VIEW IS "DIFFERENT" WHEN THERE IS NO SOUNDTRACK ATTACHED.
WE DON'T GET TO HEAR THE DOGS GROWLING AND NIPPING AT EACH OTHER. SO WE DON'T HEAR THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN THEM AND THE BABYSITTER.
I WATCH MANY DIFFERENT HOURS OF THE DAY. I AM ALSO A BIG SUPPORTER OF YOUR METHODS. GREAT DANES ARE NOT YOUR ORDINARY DOGS- AND NEED A STRONGER WILL THAN THEIR OWN- TO TEACH THEM TO THINK ON THEIR OWN.
MY DAUGHTER HAS A DANE, BRUIN. SHE SAID HE UNDERSTANDS FULL SENTENCES- HAS CONCEPTS DOWN AND VERBALIZES WITH HER. HE THINKS. AND IT IS SO MUCH FUN TO BE WITH HIM.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. BECAUSE YOUR WORK MATTERS- TO FOLKS WHO NEED YOU MORE THAN EVER.
PS; I HAVE TO TELL YOU, YOUR DESCRIPTION OF JOYCELYN WHEN SHE FELL AND STOOD UP WITH TEAL BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES EVERY TIME I THINK OF THOSE PICS. BECAUSE OF THAT INDEPENDENT SMILE ON HER FACE- ONE OF KNOWING SHE COULD DO IT WITH THE HELP FROM HER DOG. AND SHE DID!
