HE GAVE ME A GREAT LIFE

JULY 5,2013
FROM DAWN WHO LOST VAYLU 5 WEEKS AGO

HE GAVE ME A GREAT LIFE
I GAVE HIM A GREAT LIFE
THEN I LET HIM SLEEP.

IT HAS BEEN 5 WEEKS SINCE MY BOY HAS GONE TO SLEEP.LIFE WITHOUT A DANE NOT GOOD. WHILE GRIEVING THE LOSS OF OUR VAYLU MY HUSBAND AL HAD A SUBARACHNOID HEMORRHAGE=BRAIN BLEED. SPENDING TIME AT LAHEY BURLINGTON WITHOUT VAYLU WAS AWFUL. AL IS HOME AND RECOVERING. IT WILL BE GOOD TO MOVE FORWARD AND HOPEFULLY BE PARTNERED WITH ANOTHER DANE ~AN EXTENSION OF MYSELF.THE SORROW IS SUCH OF LOSING PART OF YOURSELF AND YOU REALLY ARE.
JIM,ANN & KARMA SENT A SPECIAL CARD AND LEFT US WITH THE WORDS,"HANG ON,GRIEVE & THEN DARE TO LOVE & LIVE AGAIN."

DAWN & AL
***
WELL SAID
IT IS A FACT OF LIFE-- EVERY SERVICE DOG WE DONATE WILL PROBABLY BE OUTLIVED BY THEIR PARTNER--
THAT WEIGHS HEAVILY ON ME- AND THERE IS NOT A THING I CAN DO ABOUT IT-
SO I TRY NOT TO DWELL ON IT
***********
HOW CAN I WITH THIS NONSENSE???
THERE ARE A WHOLE BUNCH OF THINGS I DO NOT DARE PUT IN PRINT---
PROBLEM ----THERE HAVE BEEN 2 PEOPLE WHO WOULD REALLY BE HAPPIER RUNNING THEIR OWN ORGANIZATIONS- BOTH HAVE PEQULIAR DELUSIONS ABOUT RUNNING SDP--- FROM ORDERING OTHER VOLUNTEERS AROUND- TO THE LATEST-- HAVING THEIR OWN SDP SHIRTS MADE---BOTH HAVE BRAGGED ABOUT HELPING AND VOLUNTEERING WHICH THEY HAVE NOT DONE.
WHAT EXACTLY IS THEIR GOAL????-
I RECIEVED 4 NOTICES LIKE THIS....
I STRUGGLED WITH WHETHER I SHOULD BRING THIS TO YOUR ATTENTION AT ALL, BUT AFTER GIVING IT SOME MORE THOUGHT, I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF SOME COMMENTS THAT WERE MADE OVER AND OVER AGAIN ON THE EXPLORE CHAT EARLIER TODAY, OR IS IT YEATERDAY, THE FOURTH. ONE OF THE VOLUNTEERS HAD MADE THE COMMENT THAT SHE WAS THINKING OF GETTING T-SHIRTS AND RUBBER BRACELETS MADE FOR HERSELF, WITH YOUR ORGANIZATIONS NAME ON THEM. EVEN AFTER SHE WAS TOLD NUMEROUS TIMES THAT THIS WAS NOT A GOOD IDEA-SHE WAS EVEN TOLD ABOUT COPYRITE INFRINGEMENT-SHE WAS VERY INSISTENT THAT AS LONG AS SHE HAD THEM MADE, IT SHOULD BE OK. I REALIZE THAT SHE HAS FINANCIALLY SENT SOME GIFTS AND SHE DOES VOLUNTEER, BUT TO ME SHE WAS WAY OUT OF LINE IN THIS ENDEAVOR.
.
I REALIZE THAT YOU HAVE YOUR HANDS FULL RIGHT NOW, AND DO NOT NEED ANOTHER ISSUE TO TAKE CARE OF, BUT I THOUGHT THAT IF YOU COULD NIP THIS IN THE BUD BEFORE IT BECOMES A MAJOR ISSUE IT MIGHT BE EASIER NOW RATHER THAN LATER.
OH I HAD HEARD THIS. UNBELIEVEABLE I DON'T READ THAT WEB- AND DON'T HAVE TIME.. BUT QUOTES GET SENT TO ME.
LET ME MAKE ONE THING PERFECTLY CLEAR-- THERE IS A TERRIBLE MIS-USE OF THE WORD VOLUNTEER BY 2 PEOPLE ON THAT SITE WHO DO NOT EVEN UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF THE WORD. A VOLUNTEER IS A PERSON WHO COMES HERE, ASKS WHAT THEY CAN TO TO HELP AND THEN DOES IT. A VOLUNTEER IS NOT A PERSON WHO USES OUR COMMUNITY TO LECTURE ON THIER ACCOMPLISHMENTS WHILE STANDING AROUND DOING NOTHING. A VOLUNTEER DOES NOT USE THIS PROJECT TO AMUSE THIER ASSOCIATES WITH FILMS MADE HERE WHILE PERFORMING NOT 2 MINUTES WORTH OF ACTUAL VOLUNTEER WORK. THERE ARE A FEW VOLUNTEERS WHO HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO SPEAK FOR SDP... THOSE HOWEVER ARE NOT THE 2 MAKING ALL THE NOISE ON THAT CHAT LINE.
NOW THE LATEST ABOUT THOSE SHIRTS.... VOLUNTEERS HERE EARN THOSE SHIRTS BY WORKING - SOMETIMES UNDER IMPOSSIBLE SITUATIONS.. THEY ARE A BADGE OF HONOR.
MY COMMENT TO BOTH THESE PEOPLE IS-- GO START YOUR OWN PROGRAM AND DO WHATEVER YOU WANT--- YOU HAVE MY BLESSING..
THE OPERATIVE WORD IS "GO" ... DO YOUR THING.. JUST NOT HERE.
*****************
I AM HOPING FOR A QUIET DAY
THERE ARE ALOT OF (REAL) VOLUNTEERS WHO SEEM TO HAVE THE DAY OFF--
I THINK OLIVER IS COMING DOWN FOR A RUNAROUND WITH MEGAN AND ME
AND EARLENE MENTOINED DEALING WITH BUBBLE WRAPPING PUZZLES
THE NEW FENCE AROUND "v"V IS CLOSE TO BEING READY TO STAND UP
AND--- PREVIOUS OWNERS OF SERVICE DOG HAVE A HIGH PRIORITY IN GETTNG ANOTHER...
SO WE NEED TO FIND--- NOT ANOTHER VAYLU-- BUT A DIFFERENT DOG FOR DAWN...

  2. Well said Carlene. I count it a privilege to be invited into your home to view the danes. I wish I lived closer so that I could come volunteer and spend some time with you and your volunteers. Please know that we don't all have these aspirations to circumvent your rules. Love you and all your "puppies" and hope to be able to watch for many years to come. Keep up the good work.

  3. WELL SAID INDEED! Foolish people who think, watching is volunteering, or visiting for that matter. Volunteering includes plenty of dirty work, such as poop patrol, general help with moving heavy stuff from here to there, under the command of someone who is there everyday, not going off on your own and carrying out your own ideas! And certainly not going for glory because you came, filmed, giggled and left!

I volunteered at a similar organization years ago, and we, who did the donkey work got aprons as a badge of honor! I still have mine and am very proud of the amount of horsesh**t I personally shoveled to get it! I would be furious at anyone who had their own version made just to show off! Tacky individual to even suggest that! SHAME!

Jim Anne and Karma's words are wise! I know that loss too. And, know that once you have had a Dane, nothing else will do. God Bless and Dog Bless you find another worthy partner.

  5. I have a little volunteer experience in a couple of places. Seems like there are always one or two like this. It's very common, unfortunately.
Wish I was closer and could help out.
    Vaylu, Rest In Peace.

  6. I don't know who is in charge of this website, but you should know that playing music upon entry to any website is the biggest no-no in the book. People may already have music going when they visit your site, they don't need yours. Even if they don't, they don't want your music. Turn it off, already! Nothing drives people away from a website faster than music automatically starting.

    1. Explore.org is the place to go... the DD is Carlene reaching out to her volunteers to give them a heads up... We Camera People Viewers are lucky to read these Daily Doggies.

  7. Carlene,
I have been watching and reading about your work for awhile now. To call you and your volunteers an inspiration, or selfless, or beautiful people all seem to fall short of what I truly think. You care for these animals with the respect and love which they deserve, then prepare them for a journey of noble service. To a disabled person, there is no greater gift than this.
So when small-minded people attack Laurie on the chat for doing what was best for Pi, or someone tries to hitch their wagon to your star with a rubber bracelet, you guys just keep rising above. Thank goodness, in your tool-belt of fine qualities, you have strength. Unfortunately the feeble-minded will continue to come out of the woodwork as you continue to shine.
I hope to some day visit you, and even volunteer. Until then I am profoundly grateful for the joy that your cameras bring into my home. I dont say much on the chat, but I peek in often, especially when times are tough. Thank you, Carlene. Your light is shining so much further than you know.
    Lauri

  8. Dear heart - we've never met but please know I keep your beloved Vaylu in prayer and intention. I greatly admire your determination and devotion as volunteers. I wish I lived closer. I am beginning work soon on training my rescued Black Lab to go into nursing and hospice facilities to comfort elderly and/or dying residents who long for the grace and loving presence of a four-legged visitor. I will keep you in my prayers. Namaste. Nannook - aka Nancy
