THE SHELIA REPORT....
SHE SAID THEY WERE PLANNING TO EAT AT THE DINER IN NEWBURGH TODAY--
THAT DIENR IS 4.25 HOUrS FROM  IPSWICH... I KNOW...
SO DEPENDING ON WHICH MEAL--.......

THAT DINER IS THE FIRST EXIT OFF THE NEWBURGH  BRIDGE ON RT 84  .
AS FAR AS DINERS GO...IT IS RIGHT UP THERE...
THE ONLY DINER  I KNOW THAT SERVES A BEEF STROGANOFF-- AND IT IS NOT THE RITZ BUT IT IS NOT BAD...

AT ANY RATE IF SHELIA ARRIVES  I HOPE WE ARE THE 4TH OR 5TH STOPOVER.. THE  FIRST BEING  THAT HOUSE THAT IS FOR SALE IN BOXFORD..

OPAL WILL GO WILD...

*********

MARCH DID NOT COME IN LIKE A LION  -- AND I DON'T SEE ANY BIG STORMS BEING FORECAST YET--
DOES THAT MEAN WE ARE ON THE "GOING OUT LIKE A LAMB" PART???

I WOULDN'T MIND ANOTHER SNOWSTORM IF THE TEMP WAS IN THE 50's

WE ARE STILL DEALING WITH ICE
AND  I AM VERY HAPPY WITH TH E  ICE SOLUTION... SOMEBODY LEFT A MILKBONE BOX UNDER THE  REMOTE GATE OPENER--- FULL OF YAK TRACKS--  YOU WEAR THEM UP TO TH EHOUSE.  DROP THEM IN A BOX HERE-- THEN TAKE ANOTHER PAIR TO GET DOWN TH EHILL...
GREAT DESIGN.

I HAVE A FEELING IT IS TH E ICE THAT HAS CAUSED THE DROP IN THE DELIVERY OF MAIL...  WHEN I DON'T EVEN GET JUNK MAIL, SOMETHING IS AMISS.  UPS AND FEDEX HAVE BEEN GOOD...
**************
MEGAN SPENT TIME AT THE VETS SITTING WITH DOGS COMING OUT OF SURGERY... AND ONE OF THE VETS THERE IS WRITING A DIET BOOK  WITH ONLY 3 PAGES

PAGE ONE- "SHUT UP AND TAKE THE STAIRS"
PAGE  TWO "EAT LESS"
AND I FORGET THE THIRD... BUT IT IS JUST AS POIGNANT...

SHE WILL MAKE A FORTUNE .
AND IF I WOULD DO THAT , I TOO WOULD LOSE WEIGHT.
BUT I LIKE FOOD...

SHELIA MAY LIKE HER BACON AND BUTTER SANDWICHES
MINE WOULD BE BUTTER AND SUGAR SANDWICHES...

I GO ALONG WITH SUGAR IS ADDICTIVE.....
YUP

******
NOW ABOUT FAT DOGS...
BAILEY IS TERRIBLE-- SHE IS PACKING IT ON HER SHOULDERS-- AND IS HAVING TROUBLE GETTING AROUND BECAUSE OF THE WEIGHT-- I KNOW ( FOM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE)

CHAOS IS DOING SLIGHTLY BETTER...

BAILEY PREFERS NOT TO DIG HER NOSE INTO FOOD-- AND WOULD LIKE IT ON A PLATE- OR BETTER YET OFF A SPOON.. MESSY NOSTRILS ARE NOT HER THING.
********
NEXT PROJECT..
WHEN I WAS A KID THErE WAS ONE DAY A WEEK-- I THINK IT WAS WEDNESDAY-- WHEN THE DINNER WOULD BE CALLED "THE WEEK IN REVIEW"  AND WE WOULD CLEAN OUT THE ICEBOX.

TIME HAS COME  WITH THIS FREEZER--  NEXT SUNDAY I THINK WE SHOULD COOK EVERYTHING THAT IS IN THERE AND SET IT OUT IN THE COLLECTION OF FOOD PEOPLE BRING.

THAT WILL INCLUDE THE 10 POUND WHOOPIE PIE IN THE FREEZER IN THE CELLAR.  AND WHAT NO ONE EATS- GOES TO THE CHICKENS.

A RE-BIRTH OF THE FREEZER...
******
SPEAKING OF CHICKENS- ON WHICH OUR PROGRAM IS TOTALLY DEPENDENT..... OURS ARE GETTING OLD-- OCASSIONALLY DYING ON THEIR OWN WITHOUT THE HELP OF ANY RACCOON OR HAWK.

WELLLLLLLL.... YOU DON'T JUST GO OUT AND BUY ADULT CHICKENS-- YOU BUY DAY OLD  WHICH THE POST OFFICE ACCEPTS IF YOU GO PICK THEM UP.

BUT DAY OLD NEEDS 99 DEGREES-- WHICH YOU CAN REDUCE THE TEMP A FEW DEGREES A WEEK....  THIS MEANS INDOOR CHICKENS-- AND ..... THAT IS A PROBLEM  ODOR WISE...
NOW THAT WE DO HAVE SUCH RELIABLE --EVENLY DISTRIBUTED HEAT... WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET SOME CHICKS IN ANOTHER FEW WEEKS..PLANNING TO GET THEM OUTSIDE MID APRIL..

WE NEED CHICKENS-- NOT ONLY FOR THE EGGS -- WHICH ARE NICE-- BUT OUR
CHICKEN SH#T EVERY MONTH...  THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE

THE PLAN HAS TO BE TO GET SOME CHICKS 25 TO 50 FROM
STROMBERG'S   YOU ALL LIKE TO PARTICIPATE-- HAVE AT IT...  DESIGN OUR BARNYARD...

www.strombergschickens.com/  WE LIKE A VERY COLORFUL FLOCK..

THE DETAILS YOU NEED TO KNOW...  STRAIGHT RUN= 50% MALES AND FEMALES AS HATCHED

we DO NOT NEED ANY MALES-- BUT SOME BREEDS YOU HAVE TO ORDER THEM THAT WAY

we DO NOT NEED ANY MEAT BIRDS- THOSE GROW FAST ON LESS FOOD-

WE NEED JUST TH EEGG LAYERS

THEY YOU HAVE REALLY ORETTY ONES WHO LAY LESS EGGS

THEN THE BROWN EGGS  WHITE EGGS AND BLUE EGGS

( WE LIKE THOSE-- INTERNALLY AN EGG IS IDENTICAL.. ONLY THE SHELL)

IT TAKES HOURS OF ARGUING WITH YOURSELF...
MANY  LARGE WHITE EGGS  FROM A COMMON LOOKING HEN--vs  FEWER EGGS

FROM A WILD LOOKING FANCY LADY CHICKEN

SO LOOK IT ALL OVER.. AND WE CAN TAKE VOTES ON WHICH BREEDS TO BUY--

AND WE CAN GET THEM IN APRIL.

AND YOU ALL CAN WORRY ABOUT NAMING THEM TOO.

CURRENTLY WE HAVE ONE NASTY ROOSTER   A POLISH TUFTED --
CHASES PEOPLE OUT OF TH E HEN HOUSE REGULARLY.

THIS COULD BE INTERESTNG..
. STRONBERG'S HAS A CATALOG WHICH THEY WILL SEND-

I HAVE NOT TRIED TO GO ONLINE TO LOOK THESE OVER... BUT I AM SURE IT IS POSSIBLE.

I DON'T PERFER THE ONES WITH FLUFFY FEATHERS ON THEIR LEGS--
THOSE TEND TO COLLECT STUFF.

maybe you should send me your lists of suggested chicks--

and we can keep track at mail time
have at it...

  2. CARLENE,
I HAD TO LAUGH WHEN YOU SAID THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR CHICKENS ON SH#TTING SUNDAY. ABOUT 25 YEARS AGO, I WAS PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF BIG BROTHERS/SISTERS. WE WERE LOOKING FOR A GOOD FUNDRAISER AND CAME UP WITH AN IDEA SIMILAR TO THE CHICKEN ONE. WE USED COWS ON THE LOCAL UNIVERSITY'S FOOTBALL FIELD WHICH WAS DIVIDED INTO 5000 SPOTS MARKED OFF IN A GRID ON PAPER. WE CALLED IT COW CHIP BINGO. ONCE A COW MADE A DEPOSIT, THE LOCATION WAS MEASURED FROM THE EDGES OF THE FIELD AND TRANSLATED INTO THE CORRESPONDING SPOT ON THE PAPER GRID. THE SH#TTING WAS DONE DURING THE HALFTIME PERIOD OF THE UNIVERSITY'S SPRING FOOTBALL GAME. A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES WERE HELD WHILE THIS WAS GOING ON...THINGS LIKE A COW PATTY TOSS, MILK DRINKING CONTEST, ETC. IT WAS A GOOD FUNDRAISER FOR US.

  4. CARLENE, SHEILA'S BUTTER/BACON IDEA MADE ME CRINGE, BUT YOUR BUTTER/SUGAR COMBO REMINDED ME OF A CHILDHOOD FAVORITE: BUTTER AND CINNAMON-SUGAR. IT'S LIKE CINNAMON-SUGAR TOAST, ONLY WITH UNTOASTED BREAD. I DON'T RECOMMEND YOU TRY IT, THOUGH -- YOU'D BE HOOKED FOR THE REST OF YOUR SUGAR-SHORTENED LIFE! ;)
