A VERY LOGICAL WAY OF STUDYING A PROBLEM IS  TO STUDY THE EXTREMES- AND THEN FIGURE OUT WHERE REALITY SETS IN...  YEE OLD BELL SHAPED CURVE....

 ON THE TOPIC OF HOUSING......
I DON'T WANT TO USE THE TERM HOARDING--- WITH ALL IT'S NEGATIVE CONNOTATIONS- BUT  AT THE AGE OF 70+++ -- I HAVE FINALLY FIGURED OUT.... IF YOU ARE BUILDING A BOX AND NEED A  PAIR OF HINGES   FOR THE LID -- THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN  NOT OWNING THEM AND NOT BEING ABLE TO FIND THEM.

PLUS I NO LONGER HAVE TO  HARNESS A HORSE  AND WAGON  TO DRIVE DOWN MUDDY UNPAVED ROADS TO GET TO THE GENERAL STORE --- OR PUSH MY CAR DOWN THE DRIVEWAY TO GET IT STARTED TO GO BUY THEM ...  BOTH OF WHICH COULD JUSTIFY STRIPPING HINGES  OFF TRASH AND KEEPING THEM.

I HAVE A CAR...  THAT RUNS...... AND THE ROADS ARE PAVED ALL THE WAY TO HOME DEPOT WHERE THEY KEEP STUFF ALL LINED UP ON BEAUTIFUL SHELVING UNTIL I NEED IT.

AND EVEN MORE MODERN... SIT HERE AND TYPE-- AND WITHIN 24 HOURS SOMEONE WILL BRING IT TO MY FRONT DOOR.  WHICH IS FASTER THAN I COULD FIND SOME STUFF AROUND HERE.
***
SO  THEN THERE IS A VERY VALID STUDY TO BE MADE OF WHAT NEEDS TO BE STORED IN HEATED AND AIR CONDITIONED COMFORT..  CERTAINLY ALL MY DOGS DO  ... BUT WHO NEEDS TO STORE TOILET PAPER  IN  A HEATED STATE?

IS THE COST OF HEATING THE TOILET PAPER  JUSTIFIED BY A QUICK RUN IN THE INVIGORATING  BREEZES TO RETRIEVE IT FROM AN UNHEATED STORAGE FACILITY.
ANTICIPATING THE NEED ON A ROLL TO ROLL BASIS IS, HISTORICALLY  IMPOSSIBLE.

THERE ARE MANY FASCINATING . "TINY HOUSE"   MEASURING  10 X 20 AND FULLY EQUIPPED  COST $25000 -- EAT - SLEEP- SHOWER -WATCH TV -IN HEATED AND AC COMFORT.   THESE DO NOT NEED AN INTERCOM SYSTEM TO TALK TO SOMEONE AT THE OTHER END OF THE HOUSE. BUT YOU  COULD STORE 2 EXTRA ROLLS OF TOILET PAPER IN THE STRUCTURE.(GOOGLE TINY HOUSE..)

AT THE OTHER END OF THE BELL SHAPED CURVE YOU HAVE THE 5000 SQUARE FOOT--12 ROOM HOUSE WITH 4 BATHROOMS AND A KITCHEN BETTER EQUIPPED THAN SOME VERY NICE RESTAURANTS FEEDING HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE A DAY.   IF WE ARE TO TAKE OUR UNIT OF MEASUREMENT---- A ROLL OF TP.... A SQUARE FOOT WOULD HOLD 4 ROLLS    IN A 5000 SQ ' MANSION  IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE TO STORE 20,000 ROLLS  ONE  UNIT DEEP
WITH 8'CEILINGS THAT IS 160,000 ROLLS.
EVEN WITH 160,000 ROLLS YOU KNOW THAT  IF THERE  ARE A FEW ROOMS  WITHOUT ANY, IT WILL BE THE 4 BATHROOMS.

POINT BEING THAT TO KEEP 5000 SQUARE FEET IN PERFECT OPERATING CONDITION WILL TAKE CONSIDERABLE EFFORT -- ONE OF THE 4 BATHROOMS WILL ALWAYS HAVE A LEAKING WASHER IN THE SINK.-- EVEN REMEMBERING WHICH BATHROOM OF THE 4  HAS THAT LEAKING FAUCET...WILL TAKE SOME ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS.

DO WE  NEED THAT??-- OR WHO TRAINED US TO WANT THAT??.
***
MY AUNT MILDRED-- LOVELY  SINGLE WOMAN  WITH ONE AND A HALF LEGS-- TAUGHT THE DEAF CHILDREN IN NYC IN ABOUT THE 1940'S -- LIVED IN AN APPARTMENT IN MANHATTAN WHICH WAS ABOUT THE SIZE OF THE "TINY HOUSE" ABOVE. AT THE AGE OF 80  SHE DATED AND MARRIED A WONDERFUL GUY WHO WAS ?PRESIDENT  OF OTIS ELEVATORS?? AND MOVED INTO HIS MANSION  IN NEW CANNON  CONN ( THE HIGH RENT DISTRICT)--

THEY ENJOYED THE HIGH LIFE TOGETHER  -- NEW YEARS EVE IN TIMES SQUARE AND ALL AT 80+ YEARS OLD.--
SOMEWHERE ALONG THE LINE SHE COMMENTED "BLESSED BE NOTHING"

I NEVER KNEW... BLESSED  BE THE STATE OF HAVING  NOTHING TO TAKE CARE OF - OR DON'T LET ADVERTISING DICTATE WHAT YOU WISH YOU HAD.

OF ALL THE THINGS I HAVE FORGOTTEN... I HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN AUNT MILDRED'S BLESSED BE NOTHING.

THE REST OF THAT STORY - I HAD A HOUSE FIRE-- TOTALED... JUST AFTER  BOTH AUNT MILDRED  AND JACK DIED--  AFTER HIS FAMILY TOOK WHATEVER POSSESSIONS THEY WANTED, THEY OFFERED ME WHATEVER WAS LEFT... I WAS DOWN TO NO POTS AND PANS TYPE THING...

SO I WENT DOWN WITH A HORSE TRAILER---AND COLLECTED THE MOST AMAZING THINGS   STERLING SILVER,  12 PLACE SETTINGS PERFECT  LAMOGES CHINA-  ALONG WITH THE POTS AN PANS.
WHERE IS IT?I GOT TIRED OF WORRYING ABOUT SMASHING THE CHINA WITH DOGS TAILS SO WHEN SOMEONE CAME ALONG AND WAS VERY ENVIOUS OF IT... I GAVE IT TO THEM ALL THE TIME  THINKING AUNT MILDRED WAS RIGHT... BLESSED BE NOTHING.

HOW ON EARTH DID I GET INTO THAT STORY????

BACK TO WORK...

  1. A wonderful story, and so much truth in it... I think as our lives become more complicated , we start saving stuff....so times because our over filled minds cannot seem to make the choice to discard something...not knowing what we might need in the future .... But now I'm in the state where keeping all this stuff is overwhelming. Blessed be the nothing
