MAY  8 2014
I WANT TO GIVE HIGHEST PRAISES to this group.IS THERE ANOTHER GROUP ON THE INTERNET THAT you could blinldly give a phone number too,   AND NOT GET 15  IMPROPER CALLS AT MIDNIGHT????... i was prepared to take the phone off the hook,  but i had only one call just as sheila had requested... and it was from  NORWAY---  WHAT A DELIGHT !!  AND SHE IS COMING TO THE RETREAT AND STAYING WITH SOMEONE FROM ?IDAHO?? AND SHE COULD NOT  WAIT TO GIVE EVERYONE A BIG HUG...  PERFECT !!

LAST YEAR IT WAS GREAT FUN--- AND VERY LITTLE PLANNING- OTHER THAN ORDERING A PORTAPOTTIE AND THE LOBSTER DINNER, I REALLY DIDN'T DO A THING.  I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS YEAR....

************
NOW AS FOR BUSINESS...
MEGAN AND I WENT TO MAINE TO MEET WITH THE SCHOOL WHERE HUNTER WILL BE GOING WITH WENDY NEXT YEAR- THE ONLY MESSAGE I HAD TO DELIVER WAS "IGNORE HIM UNLESS HE ASKS FOR HELP."  WHAT AN INDEPENDENT KID !!  AND WENDY LOVES HIM.

THERE ARE A COUPLE THINGS I REALLY NEED TO ADDRESS..
NUMBER ONE... HE IS NOW USING A "NORMAL" LEASH WITHA LOOP AT THE END-- AND HE SLIPS HIS ARM THRU THE LOOP..

THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE NO IN MY WORLD...

YOU  NEVER TIE YOURSELF TO ANY ANIMAL BIGGER THAN A HAMPSTER.  I WAS SHIPPED ACROSS COUNTRY TO BE WITNESS IN A LEGAL CASE WHERE A LITTLE BOY WAS KILLED BY WRAPPING A CLOTHES LINE AROUND HIS HAND AND THE DONKEY JUST WALKED OFF DRAGGING HIM AND HE HIT HIS HEAD.  HOWEVER UNFORTUNATE THE ACCIDENT, IT WAS NOT BECAUSE THE DONKEY WAS MEAN  OR VICIOUS... THE MOTHER HAD GIVEN THE CHILD THE CLOTHESLINE AND ATTACHED IT TO THE  DONKEY THEN BACKED OFF TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THE KID AS HE WRAPPED THE LINE AROUND HIS WRIST.

SOOOO HUNTER MUST STOP THAT IMMEDIATELY---- LOOP A LARGE AND WEAK ELEASTIC BAND  THRU THAT LOOP AND USE THAT AOUND HIS WRIST-- THEN IF HE FALLS THE ELASTIC WILL BREAK AND AT LEAST ELIMINATE THAT POSSIBLE DISASTER...

MY   OTHER CORRECTION IS THAT DAD, IN HIS CONCERN... AND I CAN NOT BLAME HIM AT ALL. HE IS HANGING ON TO WENDY WITH A SECOND CHAIN COLLAR--- AS AN EMERGENCY BRAKE-- AND I CAN NOT BLAME HIM  ONE BIT... BUT I DID SEE SEVERAL TIMES WHEN HUNTER CORRECTED, WENDY RESPONDED WELL...

SO AS AN IMMEDIATE SOLUTION HE NEEDS A SECOND LEASH ATTACHED TO HER HARNESS... HE WUOLD BE ABLE TO STOP HER BY HER HARNESS IN AN EMERGENCY, -- MAYBE EVEN A LEATHER COLLAR AS THE EMERGENCY BRAAKE.....BUT SHE COULD CONCENTRATE ON HUNTER ALOT BETTER IF HE WAS NOT IN THE MISDDLE.. AND SHE IIS TRYING...   HE WENT UP AND DOWN A LONG FLIGHT OF STAIRS I WOULD NOT HAVE ATTEMPTED.. AND HE DDID IT WELL.

THERE ARE DETAILS FOR THE SCHOOL TO DEAL WITH-- LIKE GETTING HIM OUT IN  A REAL FIRE-- NOT A DRILL-- HE WEIGHS 50 POUNDS-- PICK HIM UP AND GO AND HOPE WENDY DOES NOT THINK YOU ARE STEALING HIM... BECAUSE SHE WOULD INTERFERE I AM SURE---
SO IN THE CASE OF A FIRE--- EXCITEMENT WILL BE HIGH AND I AM SURE SHE WOULD AT LEAST TAKE THE ARM OF THE GRABBER-- PROBABLY NOT BITE DOWN-- BUT IT WOULD HAPPEN IF THEY DON'T DO SOMETHING SIMILAR AHEAD OF TIME...

NICE DOGGIE  -- VERY HAPPY DOGGIE.. DOING A GREAT JOB... AND TAKING THAT JOB SERIOUSLY--  SHE IS VERY VOCAL IN GIVING OPINIONS-- AT ONE POINT THE PT WATCHED THEM COMING DOWN THE STAIRS BY STANDING AT THE BOTTOM MOTIONLESS AND STARING AT THEM... WENDY GAVE A QUIET GRUMBLE SORT OF  "I DO NOT KNOW WHY YOU  STARE LIKE THAT-----THIS IS MY KID AND WE ARE COMING BY YOU---  JUST STAY OUT OF OUR WAY"

BARKING.... LOUD... GOING

  1. GLAD YOU ENJOYED THE CALL, SO DID I !!
YOU'RE RIGHT ABOUT A DOG PROTECTING HIS/HER HUMAN... I WAS TOLD OFF BY MY SON FOR HAVING MY GREAT DANE LOOSE IN THE CAR. HE HAD HIS DOBER ALWAYS IN A CAGE, SHE WOULD LITERALLY ATTACK ANYONE TRYING TO GET HER HUMAN OUT OF THE CAR IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT.. SOME BURGLAR WAS LUCKY ONCE: HE STOLE MY SON'S SMALL COMPUTER OUT OF THE CAR, AND DOBER IZA WAS IN HER CAGE IN THE CAR - HE WAS GOING QUICKLY OUT OF THE CAR TO JUST GET SOMETHING, BUT IT TOOK LONGER. THAT MAN WOULD HAVE BEEN MAULED IF IZA HAD BEEN LOOSE IN THE CAR..

AND YES, I'M COMING TO THE RETREAT!! SHARING A HOTEL ROOM WITH JUDITH FROM UTAH - THE ONE WITH THE BLUE EYES.. HER NICKNAME IS BRITEYES.
SEE YOU THEN, HUGS AND ALL!!

  2. RIGHT YOU ARE ABOUT NOT LOOPING LEAD ROPES/LEASHES AROUND BODY PARTS! KNOW AN EXPERIENCED HORSE TRAINER WHO 'FORGOT' AND WRAPPED A LEAD ROPE AROUND HER FINGERS. A NORMALLY QUIET HORSE WAS STARTLED, WHEELED AND TURNED....NO FINGERS! YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO LET GO! THEY GO 'HORSE' ON YOU NO MATTER HOW TAME....DITTO DOGS! I NEVER USE A LOOP ON A LEASH, EVER EVER AND HAVE HAD SEVERAL DANES IN MY LIFE. EVEN WITH SMALLER DOGS, IT'S NOT A GOOD IDEA TO LOOP!

  3. LOVED THIS DD - THANK YOU FOR SHARING ABOUT HUNTER AND WENDY. IT IS WONDERFUL TO HEAR HOW THE DOGS AND PEOPLE ARE GETTING ON - EVEN WITHOUT NAMES OR IDENTIFICATION, JUST KNOWING THE PROGRESS IS INSPIRING AND FURTHER MOTIVATION FOR DONATIONS AND SPREADING THE LOVE OF SDP!

  4. It only took me one time to learn the no-looping lesson with my chocolate lab - 125 lbs. He took off after a rabbit and I went airborne behind him until he stop and I landed on the side of my face. Resulted in a black eye and bruised face and lesson learned!
