FULL MOON-- LOTS GOING ON--ALL DOGS HAVE AN IN-OUT DOOR TO A HEATED AREA- SO IF THEY DECIDE TO SIT OUTSIDE AND HOWL-- THEN GOD MUST HAVE INTENEDED THEM TO DO THAT AND I AM NOT GOING TO WORRY ABOUT IT. IT IS A COOKIE AND KONG DAY WHERE EVERY VOLUNTEER THAT SHOWS CAN RUN AROUND THE ENTIRE PLACE AND HAND OUT A COOKIE TO EACH TO KEEP THEM AMUSED.... IT IS COLD
BUT THE BAD NEWS-- ......WELL LET ME REPHRASE THIS AND ACCENT THE POSITIVE.. THE GOOD NEWS -----THERE IS SUCH A THING AS A RABIES VACINE--- BECAUSE YESTERDAY 2 PEOPLE WERE BITTEN BY A COYOTTE IN GEORGETOWN
( 4 MILES WAY??) THEY SAID THEY COUDL NOT CHASE THE COYOTTE AWAY WITH THROWING WATER BOTTLES--- SOUNDS RABID TO ME.
AND WHERE THERE IS ONE.... THEREMUST BE MORE--- SMALL SAVING GRACE IS ROUTE 95 IS BETWEEN SDP AND THE AREA INVOLVED-- AND MUCH OF 95 HAS FENCING TO KEEP DEEER OFF THE HIGHWAY--- NOT ALL... BUT ALOT IN THIS AREA.
SO..... ADDITIONAL VIDULANCE IS NEEDED.... IF YOU SEE A LITTLE DOGGIE CRAWLING AROUND-- IT AINT A LITTLE DOGGIE AND CALL FOR HELP.. WE HAD ONE RABID COYOTTE ABOUT 25 YEARS AGO--- ANIMAL CONTROL DISPENSED WITH IT BUT THEN THE STATE MOVED IN WITH QUARENTONES ETC-- AND IT WAS... A ZOO.
WE HAVE HAD A DUSTING OF SNOW-- I HOPE THAT IS ALL BECASUSE MY CAR IS UP BEHIND THE HOUSE.... AND IF IT IS GLARE ICE, THEN IT IS HERE FOR THE REST OF THE WINTER !!!! I SLID DOWN THE HILL ONCE ALREADY-- AND I T IS EXCITING ESPECIALLY WHERN THERE IS A CAR PARKED IN THE "SLIDING STOP" AREA...
LATER IN THE SEASON I PILE SNOW THERE WHICH HAS MORE THANONCE STOPPED ME FROM SLIDING INTO THE FLAT TFIELD..
"OH MY CAR IS 4 WHEEL DRIVE" WHOOPIE.... THAT 4 WD HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH STOPPING WHICH IS FAR MORE CRITICAL THAN GOING.. GENERALLY NOT MOVING IS FAR SAFER THAN MOVING.... MENTALLY OR PHYSICALLY...
I REMEMBER.... SLIDING DOWN RT 95 WITH A DRIVER WHO WAS A VERY INTELLIGENT RESEARCH MEDICAL DOCTOR---BRAGGING ABOUT HIS 4 WD... THAT IS WHEN I COINED THE PHRASE...YOU CAN NOT ACCELLERATE AT THE RATE WITH WHICH YOU CAN DECELLERATE.
I HOPE TO HEAR FROM SHELLY TODAY-- THEY STAYED OVERNIGHT IN TH E ALBANY AREA. ****
AND I AM TOLD LARZ AND JOHN ARE WARM AS TOAST IN THE TRAINING ROOM-- WITH THAT JOTUL STOVE - MEGAN SAID TEHY ARE WORKING VERY WELL TOGETHER TOO.
I FORGET WHO IS IN THE GUEST HOUSE-- BUT SOMEONE IS-- WITH A DOG....
I RUN ON ...NEED TO KNOW BASIS-- AND THERE IS NO NEED FOR MT TO KNOW THAT YET-- I CAN FIGURE HOUT HER NAME LATER TODAY.
AND THEN THERE IS WANDA WHO WANDARD IN FROM NC WITH LORI.. SEVERAL MONTHS AGO I TOLD LORI THE ARN COULD STAND A JACK RUSSEL TO KEEP THE RATS AT BAY-- AND I FORGOT ABOUT IT -- TIL YESTERDAY SHE ARRIVED WITH A RESCUE THAT HAD BEEN FOUND WANDERING A PARKING LOT IN NC.. SHE WAS FOASTERED FOR ABOUT A MONTH- AND NO ONE WAS "MISSING " HER - WHEN LORI HEARD.... AND NOW SHE IS HERE...
MEGAN IS PANIC'D BUT IF SHE DOES WORK OUT IT WOULD NOT BE A BAD THING FOR THE DANES TO SHOW RESPECT-- AND SHE HAS .... TEETH.
THERE IS A HUGE LESSON HERE SO PAY ATTENTION...
- BOTH KIARA AND OPAL HAVE SO FAR BEEN GUILTY--- WHILE OPALWAS SNIFFING HER BUT INT HE USUAL DOG CONVERSATION FASHION, AND LORI WENT TO SCOOP UP THE LITTEL DOG- THERE IS AN IMMEDIATE INSTINCT TO GRAB AND BITE THE DOG GETTING SCOOPED.... I AM NOT SURE OF THE LOGIC-- DOENS'T MATTER ---IT IS A FACT I HAVE SEEN IT 1000 TIMES... THE OTHER PLACE YOU SEE IT IS IF ONE DOG IS ON A LEASH AND ANOTHER LOOSE DOG APPROACHES---IF YOU MOVE IT UNEXPECTEDLY- THAT CAN PRECIPITATE A BRAWL... WITH THE LEASH BIT IT IS BETTER TO THROW THINGS AT THE OTHER DOG AND TRY AND INTIMIDATE THE APPORACHING ONE.... AROUND HERE-- IN THE H OUSE, THE EDUCATION IS A FLAT HAND ACROSS THE MUZZLE IF IT GETS TOO PUSHY. DOESN'T HURT- BT STARTLES THEM-- AND DOGS DO NOT LIKE TO BE STARTLED...
WHIT APPROACHED WNADA THIS MORNING WITH UJUST A LITTLE MORE FORWARD MOTION THAN I THOUGHT NECESSARY AND I SMACKED HIM ACROSS HIS MUZZLE .. HE STOPPED IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT ABOUT IT FOR 3 SECONDS-- AND TURNED AROUND AND WENT AND LAY DOWN. ONE SMACK...DONE.
DOGS DO "A CAUSED B" REALLY WELL AND IF YOU HIT TWICE YOU WILL THEN GET THE "B CAUSED B" AND THEY WILL HAVE FORGOTTEN ABOUT THEE A ENTIRELY.
THIOS IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE MOTHER DOGS PUSHING THEM TO THE GROUND UNEXPECTED LY AND LETTING THEM GO--- AS WE OFENT DO WHEN WE HAVE TO --- IT IS THE UNEXPECTED THEN A SECOND OR TWO TO THINK- THAT WORKS... AT LEAST ON OUR DANES-- AND A FE W OTHERS I HAVE HANDLED.
THAT IS A MILLION DOLLAR TRAINING CONCEPT...
I CAN NOW GO DRINK MORE COFREE
I know you like to hear how your dogs are doing, and I want to let you know how my two are. They have been fabulous dogs. I love them dearly, and they are attached to me like velcro. I couldn't have asked for lovelier dogs.
My 83 year old dad was staying with us after he fell and was hospitalized just before Christmas, and the dogs behaved beautifully. I was concerned at first that he might be knocked over, but the dogs were very patient with him. He told them to move when they were in his way, and to back up if he thought he needed more space. Each morning Crane watched and waited when he heard my dad stir in bed, then rose to greet him. My dad has always loved dogs, but this was so good for him, that after we brought him home on Sunday, he wanted to know if the dogs missed him. I suspect it went both ways.
Thank you Carlene, for the opportunity to share our lives with these dogs, and for enabling us to share their wonderful personalities with others.
p.s. Crane also has become my ears. He lets me know when the kettle is steaming, or the alarm is beeping, etc.
