aug 16 2015
thanks to those who rallied round the gronk episode of his  rope swallowing trick..  he was saved... well actually there was not a real question of life  saving.. it was more a  question of how much it would cost.-- it being saturday afternoon.. which  for those of you counting.. the next day is sunday... known for being the most medically expensive day of the week.  i called colleen to give grace and i some heavy duty help-- she lives  3 miles away...

thanks to the recording of it-- i could simply send it to george who called back to say " that was a darn big rope-- with a knot in it.  so he doubted it would go thru... so we should try the hydrogen peroxide... s shotgoass ever 3 minutes...x 5 and if that didn;t work-- there was morphine...
i grabbed the h2o2 bottle in our medical department--- and first noted ..it was not fizzy-- so either it was old or diluted.. but we diligently squirted 20 cc's down gronks throat---5 times- with him getting increasingly difficult to catch every time.  he felt fine-- no problem to him... zero results...i called george again...
altho he might hae been watching us on camera...  the hospital staff had long gone home and he was... in 45 min due to go out to dinner.  colleen pulled her car to the front door and we loaded a very happy comfortable  confused gronk into her back seat-- with me and a wad of towels...in case the h2o2 decided to work...

george was wiating- they weighed him and gave him the morphine... and we stood around...
george is an extreme professional--he had it down to the second when the morphine would hit- so we stood around while he made the ogficial record of it's use-- and put it back in ht locked safe- then casually said "why don't we go outside?"-- we went thru the 3 doors and about 10 feet furthere and gronk started. timing is everything????   3 heaves and up came the rope-- doubled !! -- it looked much bigger on camera.. but i bagged it  to bring it home and let anyone look it over...  colleen suggested bronzing it for some award at dog fest... but i don't think so...
thank you george---  hopefully gronk goes on to make somebody very happy  as their service dog..
***.
on to the next episode...
********
steve---- grace and i were so tired after the excitement  we didn't even cook the lambchops for the usual sat night supper
*******
fyi-- training lesson....
i have to report on recipient #1  michelle-- she had my first service dog annie-- for 10 years..  and when annie died. we gave her rogue..  she came yesterday with her 4 kids- so we could get a blood sample to send to tufts because niether rogue or hner parents have had bloat... and tufts is doing a study...
the remarkable thing was those 4 kids- oldest maybe 6?--  there was absolutely no usual screaming and yelling for attention .  it would have done no good since micheele is 100%deaf...  i saw that as a lesson  in dog and child training---usually a  kid screams, mommy picks them up to stop the noise  therby rewaarding a bad behavior.. where the more correct response might be to " turn a deaf ear"   and " i will pick you up when you stop that noise"
hey-- many people offer me thier children or grandchildren in hopes they might behave as well as my dogs.
many  people...

HERE IS THE FIRST VIVIEN REPORT:

SHE WAS ASLEEP ABOUT 10 MINUTES INTO THE TRIP.  SHE HAD TO BE WOKE UP EVERYTIME WE STOPPED TO GIVE HER STRETCH OUT/WATER TIME.  SHE RODE LIKE A CHAMP, AND STILL GOT RIGHT IN THE CAR THIS MORNING FOR A TRIP TO THE STORE FOR A NEW HARNESS.  SHE WALKS VERY WELL ON LEASH-OUR ONE MILE WALK NOW TAKES TWICE THE NORMAL TIME, THOUGH BECAUSE EVERYBODY HAS TO COME OUT AND MEET THE NEW NEIGHBORHOOD DOG...
WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF BEING HERE SHE DUMPED THE OUTSIDE WATER BOWL AND THE INSIDE ONE, TOO...BUT THIS MORNING IT WAS ONLY THE OUTSIDE ONE...
HER AND MY DOGS ARE SETTLING IN VERY WELL.  THERE WAS ONE GRUMBLING ISSUE ON WHO GOT TO COME IN THE DOOR FIRST, BUT ALL WAS WELL AFTER THAT.  THEY ARE PLAYING NICELY THIS MORNING.  MY DOGS ARE GIVING HER A TOUR OF THE BACKYARD AND INTRODUCING HER TO THE SWING-IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A 3-PERSON SWING, BUT NOW IT'S A 3 DOG SWING...
POOP/PEE REPORT:
ALL SYSTEMS ARE A GO...
PLEASE LET DONNA KNOW ALL IS WELL AND VIV IS SETTLING IN VERY WELL.
ONCE AGAIN-THANK YOU FOR GIVING US THE GIFT OF BEING VIVIEN'S FUREVER PARENTS!!

JERI AND STEVEN.
